Lovie

Tuco

Name: Lovie

Breed: Miligold Macaw

Ages: 4 ¾ Years

Sex: Female (Undocumented)

Health:

Appears to be in fantastic health.  Lovie is one BIG (very BIG) bird!  Her feathering is beautiful.  She clearly has always had a superb diet and excellent care.

Temperament:

Lovie is one of the nicest Macaws I’ve met in my 40+ years of working with parrots.  Her name fits her perfectly.  She enjoys cuddling and will politely sit on you for hours.  While she seems to like being around other Macaws she hasn’t been willing to share her play stand.  She is protective of whoever she’s sitting on and doesn’t like the other parrots coming over and interrupting her one on one time.  She’s very sociable and happy to go to any adult.  She has never experienced really young children.  Our 13 year old volunteer, who is comfortable with large birds, can handle her without issue.

History:

Lovies’ owner did a wonderful job of raising this girl!  She and several of her feathered siblings came to our care because the owner is coping with serious health issues and could no longer care for all of her birds as she had always done in the past.

Adoption Requirements:

  • Lovie will need a mature adult owner.
  • If you are in a relationship we insist it be committed and stable.

  • Have a positive history as a parrot owner.  Lovie isn’t what we consider a ‘starter bird.’

  • You need to reside in a single family detached home of your own.

  • We insist that you be financially comfortable with a steady stable income that isn’t vulnerable to our current economic standings.

  • You must give Lovie the gift of time.  It would be best for her if someone in the family would be home most of the time.  Because she is a quiet bird you could work from home without being disrupted.

  • In the event you have children in your home they are expected to conduct themselves in a mature responsible manner.  It would be best if they had experience with parrots.  Children will be interviewed just as all of our applicants are.  No infants or toddlers.  Parrots are captive NOT domesticated.  At some point every parrot should be expected to bite.  We want your little ones growing up with all fingers intact.

  • Make a lifetime commitment!  In the event you would have any major life changing events that would necessitate you parting with Lovie she will be contracted to be returned to our care as are all of the birds we adopt out.  She can NEVER be rehomed or sold.

  • We require you to supply her premium grade foods that include fresh produce.

  • You are expected to have a relationship with an avian veterinarian in the event you own or have owned birds.  Your vet will serve as a reference.  Parrots, like dogs or cats, must have routine vet care if only for an annual ‘Healthy Bird Check-up.’

  • Lovie will be maintained inside your home.  She will need direct exposure to sun light on a regular basis but you must at all times be with her when outside.  Other restrictions apply.

  • She will need a newer powder coat or stainless steel cage free of any rust or toxic paint, with the approximate minimum dimensions of 40" x 30" x 75" with a ‘playtop.’  A ‘dometop’ of equal size would also be acceptable.  We require a minimum of six perches in a cage this size.

  • Lovie needs a very large manzanita or grapevine play stand.  She loves the play stands here at the rescue.  Have a steady supply of toys that she can destroy is another must.  Everything needs be in place before she goes to her new home.

  • Expect that if not properly supervised Lovie will destroy anything within reach.  She likes to chew.

  • If you meet the criteria we have set herein please complete an Adoption Application to begin the process to adopt.  We ask that you be financially ready at the time you submit your application.
