Miss Cleo
Name: Miss Cleo
Breed: Red Lored Amazon
Sex: Undetermined – She acts like a female.
Age: 23 Years Old [Approximately]
Health: Her beak requires regular grooming when. It was considerably over grown when she arrived in to our care in 2009. Cleo has a tendency to get little chubby. She loves food. Her general appearance looks to be very good. She’s had no health related issues in the time spent in our care.
Temperament: Cleo can be totally adorable. She does fine with both women and men but generally shows a preference for men. She will go to any man. She LOVES men and would like one or two of her own. She does super with other parrots of the same size. She doesn’t show a consistent fondness for children. Food is high on her list of demands. Don’t even think about sitting down to eat without sharing. I suggest you place her goodies on a play-stand as opposed to having her at the table. She feels that everything you are eating is hers and she’s not shy about taking over your plate. Serving something that doesn’t please her taste-buds? No problem she throws it on the floor. She’s bossy in a charming grumpy grandma way and can be down-right demanding at times.
History: Cleo was a wild caught bird that was imported to the US before the ban on importation. She had been quarantined in Florida and was likely from South America. It’s obvious she spent many years with someone who loved her very much. About three years ago she ended up with the couple that surrendered her to our rescue. They had little history on the bird only that she had belonged to an elderly female relative that had passed away. They were afraid of parrots.
Requirements To Adopt:
- Cleo has requested a man, a very attentive man that will contentedly allow her to control all of his leisure time. She in turn will shower him with love and admiration. If you have a spouse of the opposite sex don’t expect Miss Cleo to be her new best friend. In the event you are a female with no males in your household I believe she would be fine. It’s when she has a choice that she goes for guys. She perfectly delightful with our female volunteers until she discovered men.
- Stability in your home is a must. Cleo would be happiest in a home with mature adults. Most of the time kids get on her nerves and she has little use for them to put it bluntly. While she has been known to have a tender moment with a child I don’t think it would work long term.
- This lovely lady has also said some four letter words but only when appropriate and not often. Her vocabulary has become more G-rated since arriving in rescue. She has been known to yelled ‘Rock and roll’ before she bites women. That’s her way of letting you know you are pushing your luck.
- Reside in a single family detached home. This little gal has been known [on occasion] to yell a bit. It’s generally when you are falling short of her expectations. As soon as you straighten-up all is peaceful.
- You must have plenty of time to give her ample one on one attention, as she loves to be held. You can work outside of your home so long as you devote your evenings and weekends to Miss Cleo. She would love to have a guy that works from home or is retired but can be just as happy with a man that makes her an important part of his routine.
- We expect an applicant to be financially able to comfortably care for Miss Cleo.
- Be able to afford regular veterinary care. She will also require regular grooming.
- You must have avian experience and a documentable history with a parrot. Study about the general nature of the Red Lored Amazon but keep in mind each are unique.
- Cleo will need a medium/large cage for sleeping and when you aren’t around. She likes having a play-top but just not taller than eye level. She also insists on having at least five perches and toys she can chew when she’s not busy occupying your time.
If you meet the criteria we have set herein please complete an Adoption Application to begin the process to adopt. We ask that you be financially ready at the time you submit your application.
